Wild Land, Burning Hearts

...Sometimes it takes an unwavering faith
and a passionate, muscular discipline
to coax the light out of the darkness.
Sometimes a man must go alone into the forest
and die into its heart
so that he can bring back
the forgotten pieces of the world,
a world kept alive only by this:
our constant remembering
our constant telling
our constant calling out
far into the bright burning.

Wild Land, Burning Hearts is a beautifully produced full colour book of poetry and paintings for all lovers of poetry, art and the wild land of England. This book is a collaboration between painter Stewart Edmondson and poet Daverick Leggett. Both men live in Devon, southwest England, and the twelve pieces in the book are a passionate celebration of the wild and sacred land which inspires and nourishes them.
Poem and painting lie facing each other on the page as if in conversation. Sometimes the poetry is written directly in response to a painting; sometimes the painting is in response to a poem; sometimes both men went out into the same wild location and created their art from their direct experience. This is passionate and inspired work that will touch the heart and lift the spirit.
Stewart became a full-time painter in 2004 and was awarded the Southwest Academy Art in Devon prize the following year. This is Daverick’s first book of poetry.
